| Melanochromis auratus | This fish is arguably the most beautiful freshwater fish ever to dazzle the hobby.. Originally called the 'Golden Nyasa Cichlid' (back when Lake Malawi was known as Lake Nyasa), this was the most prized and exotic looking new fish of the early 1970s that started the African Cichlid Craze. Males turn a distinctive black/brown as they mature and become dominant. These are a mouthbrooding species. | 1" | 50 cents to $1.50 depending on size - a Steal for very high-quality examples. |

| Julidochromis dickfeldi | A Tanganyikan cichlid that charms us with it's strange swimming posture. These are a substrate spawner. | 1-2" | $2.00 | Sep09

| Pseudotropheus salousi | A dwarf mbuna with some great colors. These are not a highly aggressive mbuna. They will thrive and even breed in a smaller tank Best of all they are sexually dimorphic at maturity. (This means, like the Auratus, or the Kenyi Cichlid, it is very easy to tell adult males from females). In the case of salousis, the males migrate away from the juvenile (and female) yellow coloration to a vertical blue & black striping. | 1" | $2.50 |
![]() a Beautiful dominant male salousi with a female behind him It is interesting to note that the "Kenyi Cichlid," Pseudotropheus lombardoi, is also 'sexually dimorphic' (males and females appear substantially different). Yet, in the Kenyi's case, it is the females who have vertical blue striping and the males are yellow. With the salousis, this is reversed: females are yellow, males have blue vertical striping. |

Seeing my fish: I love to show off my fish. I am extremely busy, however, and ask that you respect my time. I cannot make myself available to 'window shoppers.' I do not maintain regular hours like a fish store. I will do my best to work with you. Weekends and weeknights are my best opportunity. I live in Downtown Sacramento.

What do the aquariums look like?

55 gallon 20 gallon 10 gallon
Here is what the sponge filters look like:

Rocks for your aquarium. Local stores generally charge at or over $1 per pound for rocks safe for your aquarium. The rocks I have come from the Mono Lake Basin and are 'Tufa.' These natural limestone rocks are considered the best rocks available in North America for African Cichlid water conditioning. They are unavailable in any local stores. I will sell these for 1/3 the regular store price (you may buy $3 lbs for a dollar).

Mono Lake Tufa at 33 cents a pound. Discussion about using in an aquarium.
